Kowloon Club

Kowloon Club was established in April 1990. Most of our Club members are overseas immigrants of which the majority are from Hong Kong. However, we also invite local Singaporeans to join our Club. The Club assists its members to integrate into the society by organizing activities with focus on cultural, recreational, educational and charitable natures.

Kowloon Club is a non-profit making organization. All activities run by the Club are self-supported by its members, sponsored by some local organizations or subsidized by the Club. All financial transactions are managed and supervised by its members or notary public accountants.

Formation

In early years, many Hong Kong professionals came to Singapore since the Government had adopted "Open Door Policy" in order to encourage more professionals to come and develop the country. These people were knowledgeable and could settle down quickly in Singapore.

Since 1989, a large number of Hong Kong people have been migrating to Singapore. These new immigrants have encountered lots of problems in areas of residential, children's education, job hunting, home affairs, etc. For these reasons, more enthusiastic Hong Kong people grouped together to form a "Kowloon Club" wishing to give a "Helping Hand" to these new comers. These volunteers provide help to and share their past experiences with new immigrants.

In the meantime, the Singapore Government also give great support in providing information and administrative assistance to new immigrants, for instance, the Social Integration Management Services (SIMS) helps in providing information about home affairs.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Club are:

To act as a focal point for Members to meet regularly and interact with each other so as to strengthen the community spirit amongst them;

To promote friendship and understanding among the Members and other Singaporeans;

To assist new permanent residents with their initial needs wherever possible, and to facilitate their integration into the Singapore community;

To provide for the recreational needs of the Members by organising social activities and functions for their families and friends; and

To organise educational, cultural, recreational and welfare programmes for the benefit of the Members and their families.
